Maritime College No.1 joined hands to support the construction of the Memorial of Heroes and Martyrs in Kien An District, Hai Phong City on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Invalids and Martyrs’ day (July 20th, 2023) (24/07/2023)


Towards the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Kien An district, the People’s Committee, the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Kien An district, Hai Phong city sent a donation request letter to agencies, units, armed forces, businesses, schools, benefactors, people of Kien An’s hometown, party members, officers, officials, civil servants, and employees who join hands to build a Memorial of Heroes and Martyrs on Thien Van mountain by social capital with their gratitude and responsibilities for the sacrifices of heroes and martyrs for the national liberation, for the peaceful and happy life of the Vietnamese.

Memorial of Heroes and Martyrs in Kien An District was built and completed at the end of 1959. Over the past 60 years, it has been degraded. It is also located next to the five-way crossroads with high traffic capacity which affects the sanctity of a spiritual cultural work. Facing this situation and implementing the direction of the Party Committee Secretary of Hai Phong city, Kien An district’s leader planned to build a Memorial of Heroes and Martyrs on Thien Van mountain with an area of ​​about 5,290 square meters and a total investment of about 30 billion VND. It is expected that the work will be implemented in 2023 and 2024 with 100% social capital.

Maritime College No.1 is a public non-business unit under Ministry of Transport with the second campus located in Dong Hoa ward, Kien An district; thus, as as soon as it is received the donation request letter, MC1 determined our responsibility to share and contribute with the local authority. The Party Committee has directed the Board of Rector, the Executive Committee of the Trade Union and the Youth Union of the school to mobilize from various sources. The total donation is 50 million VND.

The gratitude activity for Invalids and Martyrs’ day is one of the series of important events of schools in general and Maritime College No.1 in particular. This is also an opportunity to pay tribute and remember the merits of heroes, martyrs, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers and veteran who made great contributions to the national liberation, construction and defend the Fatherland.

On the afternoon of July 19th, 2023, the conference to raise funds for the construction of the Memorial of Heroes and Martyrs in Kien An District was held at the hall of the People’s Committee of Kien An District. At the conference, on behalf of Maritime College No.1, Ms. Vu Thi Hai Van - Chairwoman of the School Council, Chairwoman of the Trade Union presented a 50 million VND donation to the representatives of the People’s Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Kien An District.

At the end of the conference, more than 200 organizations and individuals contributed with a total donation of over 15 billion VND to build the Memorial of Heroes and Martyrs in Kien An District. Thanks to this activity, Maritime College No.1 would like to demonstrate the traditional ethics “Repaying gratitude”, “when drinking water, remember its source” to the preceding generation who sacrificed for the national liberation; moreover, it also aims to educate students about the revolutionary tradition, patriotism and national pride and raise the awareness and responsibility of young people in national construction and defense the Fatherland.
